how do we choose our farmers and ranchers?

We work with local farmers, ranchers, and USDA processing facilities that meet our high standards for ethical sourcing, humane treatment, and sustainable practices that have the least environmental impacts.

What is Pasture raised? what is grass-fed?

We are advocates for pasture-raised farming practices as opposed to the commercial confined animal feeding operations (CAFO’s) that represent more than 95% of our commercial meat industry. Pasture raised livestock have available pasture and are free to roam.

Grass fed livestock are pasture raised and on a strict natural grass diet. Year round grass fed animals can be difficult here in the San Juan Mountains. Our farmers and ranchers frequently endure harsh winters. Farmers and ranchers supplement the animals all-grass diet with small amounts of grain to give them enough energy to keep warm during the cold Colorado winters.
